Vibrato is an important and complex technique for almost all instruments and voice. Usually vibrato has become an indispensable technique for the performers in order to capture a good tone and express the music in the most powerful way. Since there is no stable and clear teaching technique, the use of vibrato becomes more complicated especially in stringed instruments. When the literature of string pedagogy is examined, it is seen that many technical features such as vibrato perception, speed and width are mentioned. In music technologies, vibrato is recorded in many ways; timbre, frequency and amplitude. Using of vibrato in cello also varies during solo and ensemble performance. Vibrato is almost not used in the Baroque period. In the Classical period works, a short and low oscillation vibrato is used in certain places. In the Romantic period; vibrato appears more frequently oscillating. In the 20th and 21st century music, also called Contemporary period, vibrato has entered a completely original understanding. This research includes the use of vibrato technique in the history of music within the framework of music history, researches about vibrato and vibrato teaching in cello. The research is important in order to understand and apply how vibrato technique is used in periods.
