Abstract
The aim of this study is to determine the level of music teacher candidates' educating and teaching self-efficacy and whether their educating and teaching self-efficacy levels differ according to various variables, and, in addition, to examine the relationship between their educating and teaching self-efficacy scores and their academic achievement. The study group consists of students (N=158) studying in music education departments in the 2013–2014 academic year. In line with the aim of the study, the students' educating and teaching self-efficacy levels were obtained through the Educating and Teaching Self-Efficacy Scale developed by Kan (2007), and their demographic characteristics and academic achievement levels through a Personal Information Form prepared by the researcher. The “Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient” and the “Independent Samples t-Test” were used in the analyses. The study found that the music teacher candidates' educating and teaching self-efficacy levels were high. In addition, a significant positive relationship was found between the music teacher candidates' educating and teaching self-efficacy and academic achievement levels. On the other hand, the music teacher candidates' educating and teaching self-efficacy scores did not differ significantly in terms of the gender and year-level variables.
