Ethics Editor
The journal’s ethics procedures are overseen by the Ethics Editor, Assoc. Prof. Özcan Özkarakoç (Akdeniz University). The Ethics Editor investigates suspected misconduct and complaints, decides questions concerning ethics approval and permissions, and initiates corrections, expressions of concern or retractions where necessary. Where a case concerns the Ethics Editor, or the Ethics Editor has a conflict of interest, it is handled by the Editor-in-Chief or by a member of the Editorial Board with no conflict of interest. The Ethics Editor can be contacted at bilgi@artsurem.tr.
Responsibilities of authors
- The submitted work is original, has not been published elsewhere and is not under review at another journal.
- Data and sources are genuine; there is no fabrication, falsification or selective reporting. Research data (questionnaire and interview records, field notes, measurements, etc.) are retained for at least five years after publication so that they can be provided to the editors on request.
- Others’ ideas, methods, data, images and text are properly cited, and primary sources, archival documents and works of art are identified in a verifiable way. Authors’ own previously published text is reused only with citation.
- Where ethics approval is required, it is obtained before the research begins, and the name of the committee and the date and number of the decision are stated in the article (see Ethics Approval and Informed Consent).
- Where images, photographs of works, documents, scales or data belonging to others are used, the necessary permissions are obtained from the rights holders.
- Images of works of art are used in accordance with Law No. 5846 on Intellectual and Artistic Works: the artist, the title and date of the work, the collection or institution holding it (where applicable) and the source of the image are stated, and images of works still in copyright are used within the limits of quotation or with the permission of the rights holder. Student work and works produced by research participants are published only with the written permission of their makers (or, for minors, of their parents or guardians).
- Authorship is limited to those who meet the authorship criteria; contributions are declared using CRediT roles (see Authorship and Contributorship).
- Conflicts of interest and sources of funding are declared (see Conflicts of Interest and Funding).
- The use of artificial intelligence tools is declared (see Artificial Intelligence Policy).
- If authors discover a significant error in their published article, they notify the journal promptly and cooperate with the editors on a correction or retraction.
Responsibilities of reviewers
- The manuscript under review is confidential; it may not be shared, cited, used in personal work before publication or uploaded to artificial intelligence tools.
- Reviewers with a conflict of interest, or who believe they know the identity of the authors, decline the invitation.
- Reviews are objective, reasoned, constructive and respectful, and contain no personal criticism.
- Reviewers do not make citation of their own work a condition.
- Reviewers report suspected ethical breaches to the editor confidentially.
- Reviewers complete their review within the agreed time or inform the editor in advance.
Responsibilities of editors
- Decisions are based solely on scholarly quality, originality, methodological adequacy and fit with the journal’s scope; authors’ institution, title, nationality, gender, beliefs or opinions have no bearing on decisions.
- Editors keep information about submissions confidential and protect the anonymity of reviewers.
- Editors recuse themselves from manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest; their own manuscripts are reviewed independently.
- Editors make sure that each study was conducted with the required ethics approval and permissions and request documentation when needed.
- Editors follow the COPE flowcharts when misconduct is suspected and publish corrections, expressions of concern or retractions where necessary.
- Editors ensure that review is carried out fairly and on time.
Responsibilities of the publisher
The owner and publisher, Sanat ve Dil Araştırmaları Enstitüsü (Institute of Art and Language Studies), and the publishing service provider, Artsürem Yayıncılık, guarantee the editorial independence of the journal and do not interfere with publication decisions. The publisher ensures the continuity of open access, the preservation of content and the assignment of DOIs, and provides the support needed to investigate ethical breaches. The journal does not carry advertising, and editorial decisions are not influenced by any commercial relationship.
Research and publication misconduct
Under the YÖK Directive and COPE guidance, the following are considered misconduct: plagiarism (including translating a text from another language without citation); fabrication of data, sources or documents and falsification; publishing the same work in more than one place (duplicate publication); splitting the results of a study into several publications without justification (salami slicing); unjustified authorship; failure to disclose funding; conducting research without ethics approval; and manipulation of citations or of the peer review process.
Reporting and investigating misconduct
Suspected misconduct concerning a manuscript under review or a published article can be reported to bilgi@artsurem.tr, with the reasons and any supporting documents; anonymous reports are considered to the extent of the evidence they contain. Reports are investigated by the Ethics Editor. Investigations follow the COPE flowcharts: the authors are asked for an explanation and, where necessary, their institutions are contacted. Depending on the outcome, a correction, an expression of concern or a retraction is published (see Corrections, Retractions and Expressions of Concern).
