An “Etude Analysis Model” Related to Violin Education

Abstract

The concept of the etude, which can be defined as “a special composition created to ensure the technical development of the performer on his or her instrument” (Scholes, 1992, 336), is one of the most important elements of violin education and repertoire, as it is for almost every instrument. Etudes may be small-scale pieces written for one or a few techniques, but they may also appear as broad and profound forms of musical expression. Through the objectives they contain, etudes aim at the technically and musically correct and beautiful performance/interpretation of musical works. In this respect, they have a very important place and function in instrument education.

In this article, a technical analysis was made of Etude No. 10 from Mazas, Special Studies, Op. 36/1, a method widely used in the violin courses taught in the music teacher education departments of faculties of education in Turkey; the difficulties it contains were identified, and technical exercises were developed to overcome these difficulties.

“İcracının çalgısı üzerindeki teknik gelişiminin sağlanması amacıyla yaratılan bir özel kompozisyon” olarak tanımlanabilen etüt kavramı (Scholes, 1992, 336), hemen her çalgıda olduğu gibi, keman eğitimi ve repertuvarının da en önemli unsurlarından biridir. Etütler; bir ya da birkaç tekniğe yönelik yazılmış küçük çapta eserler olabildiği gibi; geniş, derin müzikal ifade biçimi olarak da karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Etütler, içerdikleri hedeflerle müziksel eserlerin teknik ve müzikal olarak doğru ve güzel seslendirilmesini/yorumlanmasını amaçlar. Bu yönüyle çalgı eğitiminde çok önemli bir yere ve işleve sahiptirler.

Bu makalede, ülkemizdeki eğitim fakülteleri müzik öğretmenliği anabilim dallarında yürütülen keman derslerinde yaygın olarak kullanılan Mazas–Special Studies, Op.36/1 metodundan 10 numaralı etüdün teknik analizi yapılarak içerdiği güçlükler saptanmış ve bu güçlüklerin giderilmesine yönelik olarak teknik çalışmalar oluşturulmuştur.
