Abstract

In this study learning styles of candidate music teachers have studied to determine and studied to evaluate according various variables. Kolb Learning Styles Inventory has used to 164 of candidate music teachers in this study which is developed by Kolb (1985) and translated in Turkish by Aşkar & Akkoyunlu (1993) including validity and reliability study.

As a result of the study, it has been found out that the music teacher candidates adopted 'changing' and 'assimilating' learning styles, male students tried to clarify the meaning they attributed and the value they gave to music in their music perception by 'changing' learning style, they were aware of, music dimensionality (music philosophy, music aesthetics, music execution and music education etc.), they adopt learning with consciousness of being objective, careful and patient in musical learning. It was determined that female students reflected 'Assimilating' learning more and adopted intensive thinking activity on abstract concepts of music accordingly (art, value, love, true, beautiful, effective, etc) and in their musical learning these thoughts and ideas were leaded. As a significant difference was present in gender and learning styles variables in the study, there was no significant difference for the variables of learning styles with "class level" and learning styles and "high school type graduated" and learning styles and "academic success".
