The Effects of Musical Plays’ Preparatory Work on Melodic Repetition Skill of People Who Do Not Have Music Education

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of the musical play preparation process on the melodic repetition skill of individuals who have not received music education and thereby to reveal the contribution of song-learning and singing activities carried out with individuals who have no professional music education to melodic repetition skill. The study group consisted of 28 undergraduate students in the Creative Drama Club of Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University in the 2015-2016 academic year. Haldun Taner’s “Keşanlı Ali Destanı” was chosen as the musical play, and “melodic repetition” was chosen as the musical skill parameter to be measured. In this experimental study with a one-group pretest-posttest design, 7 melodic repetition questions were administered to the 28 students, with video recording, in the first and last weeks of the 12-week musical play preparation work. The evaluations of the pretest and posttest by the researcher and two field experts revealed an improvement of 17.4 points in favor of the posttest. Learning new songs during the preparation of a musical play and singing them with correct pitch and rhythm under the supervision of a music education expert led to a considerable improvement in the students’ melodic repetition skill. Based on this result, it can be understood that musical skills can be developed in young people aged 18-22 and that learning new songs, and learning them with correct pitch and rhythm, improves musical skill.

Öz

Bu araştırmanın amacı, müzikli oyun hazırlık sürecinin, müzik eğitimi almayan bireylerde ezgi tekrarı becerisine etkilerini inceleyerek mesleki müzik eğitimi almayan bireylerle yapılacak şarkı öğrenme, şarkı söyleme etkinliklerinin ezgi tekrarı becerisine katkısının ortaya konmasıdır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu 2015-2016 eğitim/öğretim yılında Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal Üniversitesi Yaratıcı Drama Topluluğunda yer alan 28 lisans öğrencisi oluşturmuştur. Müzikli oyun olarak Haldun Taner’in “Keşanlı Ali Destanı” adlı oyun, ölçülecek müziksel beceri parametresi olarak ise “ezgi tekrarı” becerisi belirlenmiştir. Deneysel araştırma niteliğinde, tek grup ön test-son test desenli bu çalışmada 12 haftalık müzikli oyun hazırlık çalışmalarının ilk haftasında ve son haftasında 7 adet ezgi tekrarı sorusu 28 öğrenciye, kamerayla kayıt altına alınarak uygulanmıştır. Araştırmacı ve iki alan uzmanının ön test ve son testi değerlendirmeleri neticesinde, son test lehine 17,4 puanlık bir gelişme saptanmıştır. Müzikli bir oyun hazırlığı sürecinde öğrencilerin yeni şarkılar öğrenmeleri, şarkıları bir müzik eğitimi uzmanının gözetiminde doğru ses ve doğru ritimde söylemeleri ezgi tekrarı becerisinde önemli bir gelişmeye sebep olmuştur. Bu sonuçtan yola çıkarak müziksel becerilerin 18-22 yaş aralığındaki gençlerde geliştirilebilir olduğu; yeni şarkılar öğrenmenin ve bunları doğru ses ve ritimde öğrenmenin müzik becerisini geliştirdiği anlaşılabilmektedir.
