Abstract

A work of art encompasses a process that takes shape in the artist's dream world, continues with the participation of the viewer, sometimes carries on through technological formations, and may change, come to an end or sustain its existence in an endless process. Digital art takes its place in the contemporary art process as the shaping and coming into being of art through human experience, pushing the boundaries of concepts, technology and the world of perception. Today, art is seen to have crossed all boundaries and to advance through interdisciplinary work and the use of technology. Advances in digital technology now enable artists to create works that can be seen and appreciated all over the world. Digital art has not only broadened the definition of art but has also increased the accessibility of art to the world. Artists tend to be involved in the process rather than the outcome, and they approach the creation of a work of art both experimentally and evolutionarily. The fact that installation art can adapt to the digitalizing process and be produced in a site-specific way enables closer relations to be established with other contemporary art forms such as video installation and performance. The possibilities of expression, material and strategy that installation offers the artist have enabled many innovations and original works to be produced. Digital installation is integrated with technology and, by offering its audience an interactive art experience, gives them the opportunity to be directly involved in art. In this research, digital installation works and their artists were examined. It was concluded that installation is presented through digital possibilities, that artists successfully reflect this situation in the works they have produced, and that the process will continue with innovations.
