Examination of the Use of Animation in Education, and an Animation Application

Abstract

Nowadays, when traditional methods are losing their validity in every field, the field of education has also been affected by these innovations. The purpose of this research is for technology, which exists in every field today, to become effective in education as well, and for animation-supported education to become widespread. Another aim is to reveal whether there is a significant difference between education in which cartoons and animation are used as a method and education in which traditional methods are used. The research is important in that the use of animation as a method in education contributes to the development of formal education. Qualitative research and document analysis methods were used in the research. Within the scope of the findings obtained in this research, the contributions of animation and cartoons to education were observed in the experimental studies conducted. Studies conducted in Turkey are few in number compared with international studies, and increasing the number of studies will contribute to the technological development of education in our country by bringing a different perspective. In line with the findings, it was observed that, rather than remaining dependent on traditional methods in education, concrete and lasting methods using 2D and 3D techniques, such as animation and cartoons, are more beneficial. It is thought that animation increases retention in education and makes it easier to acquire information. It is envisaged that, for animation to take a greater place in education in Turkey, it should be integrated into the education system. To achieve this, it is recommended that the number of animation departments, which are few in universities in our country, be increased. A sample animation application was produced to show how animation can be used in formal education.

Her alanda geleneksel yöntemlerin geçerliliğini kaybettiği bugünlerde eğitim alanı da bu yeniliklerden etkilenmiştir. Bu araştırmanın amacı, günümüzde her alanda var olan teknolojinin, eğitim alanında da etkin olması ve animasyon destekli eğitimin yaygınlaşmasıdır. Bir diğer amaç da çizgi film ve animasyonun yöntem olarak kullanıldığı eğitim ile geleneksel yöntemlerin kullanıldığı eğitim arasında anlamlı bir fark olup olmadığını ortaya çıkarmaktır. Araştırma, animasyonun eğitimde yöntem olarak kullanılmasının örgün eğitimin gelişmesine katkıda bulunması yönüyle önemlidir. Araştırmada nitel araştırma ve doküman analizi yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Bu araştırmada elde edilen bulgular kapsamında yapılan deneysel çalışmalarda animasyon ve çizgi filmlerin eğitime verdiği katkılar gözlemlenmiştir. Türkiye'de yapılan çalışmalar, uluslararası çalışmalara göre sayıca azdır ve çalışma sayısının artırılması ülkemizde eğitimin teknolojik olarak gelişmesine farklı bir bakış açısı getirerek katkı sağlayacaktır. Bulgular doğrultusunda eğitimde geleneksel yöntemlere bağımlı kalınmayıp, animasyon ve çizgi film gibi, 2D ve 3D tekniklerinin kullanıldığı somut ve kalıcı yöntemlerin daha faydalı olduğu gözlemlenmiştir. Animasyonun eğitimde akılda kalıcılığı artırdığı ve bilgiyi almayı kolaylaştırdığı düşünülmektedir. Türkiye’de animasyonun eğitimde daha fazla yer alması için eğitim sisteminin içine entegre edilmesi gerektiği öngörülmüştür. Bunun sağlanabilmesi için ülkemizdeki üniversitelerde az sayıda olan animasyon bölümlerinin artırılması önerilmiştir. Örgün eğitimde animasyonun nasıl kullanılacağına dair örnek bir animasyon uygulaması yapılmıştır.
