Abstract
“Geçki”; adds various scales, sounds or makams to the performance or musical work in order to avoid monotony and to make them more aesthetic. Sometimes, it is an agent that provides aesthetics without making these contributions. Also, it is one of the main areas where composers and instrumentalists display their mastery. Therefore, the concept of “geçki” is considered to be one of the important issues of Turkish music. Studies on “geçki” generally include the definition of “geçki” and its types, the transfer of basic information required for “geçki”, the determination of the “geçki”s in the musical works and their exemplification with notes. In studies on “geçki” methods, it has been seen that the concept is tackled superficially and the methods of how to apply the sounds, scales or makams to be used in “geçki” in an appropriate manner are still lacking. The way a concept, idea or action should be realized is as important as analyzing the phenomenon. In this respect, understanding how the “geçki” should be done separately or in common ways becomes important. The study focuses on the “geçki” methods used by performers while performing “geçki” in Turkish music. In this study, the “geçki” methods used by Neyzen Yavuz Akalın and Tanburi Musa Kazım Tığlıoğlu were studied. The transition taksims (improvisations) of the performers were obtained through interviews. The main melodies of the taksims were notated with explanations. The “geçki” methods determined to be used in the notated taksims were named. The named “geçki” methods were explained in written form as a sub-problem. Within the scope of the study, it was determined that eight different “geçki” methods were used in the eight taksims performed. The use of these “geçki” methods singly as well as the usability of more than one “geçki” methods together are among the findings. The results and suggestions obtained through the analyses are included in the last section of the study.
